What is the Oasis Project?
The Oasis Project (“Oasis”) provides free professional tutoring to under-served children who are experiencing difficulties with reading, math and other subjects. Falling behind in school at an early age can significantly affect a child’s future success. Most school districts don’t have the needed financial resources to provide individual tutoring, and many parents can’t afford to hire a tutor. That is where Oasis comes in to help children find resources in the dry circumstances of their lives.
Established in 2016 as a non-profit 501(c)(3) corporation, Oasis works closely with public schools in Western Waukesha County to bridge the gap in needed educational services for economically disadvantaged students and others who are experiencing hardships or trauma that affects their learning. More than 85 professional educators in past years (mostly retirees) have volunteered their time, skills and heart to tutor more than 200 children, kindergarten through eight grade, at eleven Oasis Learning Centers in local schools. It is our hope to expand Oasis services to even more districts beyond the three we are already serving! With the financial help of caring communities, individuals, civic organizations and foundations, we are coming together to help children own a brighter future.
If you think kids in our area were struggling before Covid19 hit, imagine their gaps now that they have lost months of valuable instructional in-person time!! Imagine their teachers trying to give extra help when their workload has more than doubled! The Oasis Project provides free professional tutoring to children in need in Western Waukesha County.
Friends, we need community support to strengthen our children and support our public schools now more than ever! The needs are urgent and we are expanding NOW. Thank you for your partnership and help in strengthening the most vulnerable among us. #GivingTuesday #TogetherWeCanMakeADifference

An endorsement from former Kettle Moraine School District Superintendent Pat Deklotz
Dr. Patricia Deklotz, Superintendent of Kettle Moraine School District, said this: “As a superintendent, there is a constant struggle to balance and align resources to meet ever increasing needs. Our teachers work so hard. But the social and emotional needs of many kids cry out for attention and giving the ideal level of individualized help is not feasible for classroom teachers. We have lots of needs that we can’t meet. The Oasis Project stretches the boundaries of what teachers can do.Many people in the area aren’t aware of how many kids in their midst need such help. And, because the area has higher income, the schools don’t qualify for aid or for programs that are focused on places where poverty is more common.Oasis volunteers not only address academic deficits, they meet social and emotional needs of students by demonstrating to these kids that they matter, they can accomplish great things, and they are valued as an individual.”
